The Stubai Valley is a true paradise for winter sports enthusiasts with its excellent slopes and impressive mountain panoramas. As one of the most popular ski resorts in the Tyrolean Alps, it attracts thousands of visitors every year, who can enjoy skiing, snowboarding and even glacier hiking. The Stubai Glacier, as the highest point in the region and one of the largest glacier areas in the Alps, also offers a long winter season and ideal conditions for those who love the snow. In the middle of this majestic mountainscape, Wintersport AG plays a decisive role and ensures a safe infrastructure that enables the smooth operation of the lifts and safe access to the glacier.
The challenge of the project “Upgrading the snowmaking facilities” was to ensure a reliable solution for the water supply to the snowmaking facilities in this high alpine environment. The extreme climatic conditions, the short construction period and the altitude made it necessary to find a partner who specializes in such challenges and can react quickly. Wintersport AG then decided to work with TRM due to its expertise, regionality and the associated flexibility.
In 2022, around 2,800 meters of pipes were installed with a total of around 10,500 meters installed until 2024.
This was around 1,000 tons of pipes and fittings made of GJS, which had been selected specifically for the harsh conditions of the mountain terrain. The main pipes vary from DN 80 to DN 400, including the emergency drainage in DN 600, with a maximum operating pressure of 100 bar. The use of VRS®-T joints is something to highlight, due to their high reliability and strength even under extreme pressure conditions. In addition, the pipes were given a PUR Longlife coating to maximize their service life and resistance.
As a result of proper work preparation as well as planning plus TRM's flexible logistics, the project could be implemented very efficiently. The total construction time was three years, although only a short period (from May to October) could be used at each time. The overall project will be completed by the end of 2024.
