Expansion of logistic centre

Expansion of a logistics centre in South Tyrol

In the course of the expansion of the company headquarters Würth S.r.l., a new logistics centre including an associated warehouse was built in Neumarkt (South Tyrol) on an area of almost 4000 square metres.

During the soil investigations, it turned out that load-bearing soil layers were only available at deeper levels. Due to the high demands on the foundation of the structure, especially in the area of the warehouse, and with regard to the construction time (requirement of a high shift performance), the use of ductile driven piles was already recommended in the planning phase.

Based on various test results, the planning team led by Arch. Vonmetz Johann (arch.tv Trojer Vonmetz Architects) in cooperation with the engineering office Holzner & Bertagnolli and in agreement with the project coordinator Mr. Ing. Sandro Faccioli (Würth), a concept for the foundation with ductile driven piles was worked out.

Due to the already experienced reliability, the high production output and the technical expertise, the civil engineering specialist Keller foundations decided in favour of the TRM pile system. A total of 410 TRM piles of type 170 were installed, corresponding to a total length of 15,000 m at a depth of up to 45 m. In addition, geothermal probes were also installed in the course of the pile installation. Christian Wetzlmaier (site management Keller): "With the pile system from TRM, the foundation of the new logistics centre could be successfully implemented in a settlement-sensitive soil with different geotechnical properties, taking into account high settlement requirements."

Due to the good coordination of the executing companies, the deadline milestone for the main work was met and the foundation was completed in only two months.

Fast. Simple. Safe.
