Foundation for residential building
The construction of a new 8-storey residential building in Brooklyn, NY, covers a total area of approximately 5,388 square meters and includes 69 residential apartments. To meet the building's foundation requirements in the tight site conditions, while keeping vibration to a minimum, GeoStructures, Inc. put in a strong and effective foundation system using 216 Grouted TRM Ductile Iron Piles, employing the TRM 118/7.5 pile with the TRM 220 diameter grouted pile shoes.
These piles were installed at an average depth of 9.5 meters and were subjected to a full-scale load test, confirming their compression capacity of up to 331 kN. The rapid installation process took a mere 3 weeks, offering significant cost savings and speed advantages compared to traditional micro-piles.
By employing the TRM Ductile Iron Piling system, the project team successfully navigated challenges related to geotechnical conditions, including urban fill and varying soil layers, without causing any adverse effects for the neighbouring area.
