The construction of a 3-story commercial office building at 55 Spinelli Place in Cambridge, MA faced geotechnical challenges due to the highly variable soil conditions. Covering 605 square meters, a range of materials from "urban" fill to organic soils and weathered bedrock were encountered at varying depths. To navigate these challenges, TRM Ductile Iron Piles (DIP) were used, TRM 118/7.5 piles were equipped with a 220mm grouted pile shoe, to handle column loads ranging from 533 kN to 2670 kN.

Even at a pile load test of 200% of the design load (551 kN), only a deflection of 14.2 mm (0.56 inches) was reached, demonstrating robust performance and confirming that the TRM Piling System system could effectively transfer the loads through the problematic soils to the more stable layers.

The successful load test was followed by the speedy installation of 92 production piles, ranging from 19 to 26m in depth and a total average production rate of 250m per day, reinforcing the suitability of the TRM Piling System for the project.
