Kranjska Gora ski resort
The Kranjska Gora ski resort in Slovenia attracts numerous skiers and snowboarders from all over the world. It is located in the Julian Alps, close to the Austrian and Italian borders, which makes it a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts. Kranjska Gora is especially famous for hosting the Alpine Ski World Cup. Every year, the world’s best ski racers gather to compete in spectacular races on the challenging slopes.
As it is a very popular vacation and competition destination for skiers and snowboarders, the slopes must always be in the best condition. To fulfill these requirements, technical snowmaking is used for approx. 100% of the slope area. For this purpose, state-of-the-art snow guns as well as particularly safe and robust pipelines have to be used.
Because of the ease of installation, the many years of experience, the flexibility of the system and the all-round customer support, both professional and personal, the General Manager of the ski area, Peter Wettengl, decided to use the ductile iron pipe system from TRM.
The planning phase started in 2020 and the first preparations have already been done. In 2021, the installation of the total of 6,800 m of field pipelines started. Ductile iron pipes in DN 100 to DN 500 with PUR longlife coating and a nominal pressure rating of up to 63 PN were used for the project. The pipes were laid very simply and efficiently by ETM Bau GmbH using TRM's push-fit socket system.
In order to guarantee a particularly high level of safety when connecting the pipelines, TRM's VRS®-T system was used. In addition to the pipeline for the snowmaking system, a DN 80 drinking water pipeline and a DN 100 wastewater pipeline were installed.
Thanks to the very good cooperation of General Manager Peter Wettengel, the planning and implementation of the project by ETM Bau GmbH and TRM, the ski resort was able to provide 100% technical snowmaking for 80 ha of slopes for the first time in the winter of 2022/23.
