Boat Jetty and walkway in the St. Jernej Canal

The municipality of Piran in Slovenia is known for its long pier and Venetian architecture. In order to preserve the cultural heritage, it was important to clean up and renovate the St. Jernej Canal, located in the nearby village of Seča. The canal was in danger of complete deterioration due to lack of maintenance and neglect.

To transform the canal into one of the most beautiful places on the Slovenian coast, the municipality of Piran initiated clean-up efforts and a project to build a wooden pier with boat access and docking capabilities.

For the implementation of the new dock and the adjacent pier, a piling system was needed that could penetrate the soft canal bed and reach the underlying stable ground. For this reason, the planners IZVO-R d.o.o. and SLP d.o.o. decided to collaborate with TRM and their piling system made of ductile cast iron.

The client, Adriaing d.o.o. Koper, was able to easily install the piles using a small team and a small barge carrying the excavator and piles. With a production rate of up to 20 piles per day, the installation process was efficient. Furthermore, despite the tight schedule, all noise-intensive work was completed on time in April to accommodate the arrival of nesting birds.
