Snow for world champions - snow pipelines from TRM

In 2021, the Nordic World Ski Championships will be held for the third time in Oberstdorf, Germany. Where people usually go long-distance skiing as part of the Four Hills Tournament, the world champions in ski jumping, cross-country skiing and Nordic combined are currently being crowned. In addition to being a home for top-class sports, Oberstdorf also offers a wide range of opportunities for young and amateur athletes. In order to be able to offer all athletes excellent conditions, some expansion and conversion measures were carried out on the existing snow-making system with a view to the major event of the Nordic World Championships in 2021. In the course of the ten-month modernisation and expansion of the system, the existing water reservoir was enlarged, new snow pipelines and pumping stations were built, as well as water cooling systems and standpipes.

The snow pipes, that transport the water from the reservoir to the snowmaker are well hidden in the underground, under a thick layer of snow and earth. These were supplied by Tiroler Rohre GmbH(TRM) in nominal diameters from DN80 to DN300 with the proven VRS®-T joint. The decision to install pipes from the heart of the Alps over a length of 4,300 metres was based on the company's rapid delivery capability. The high pressure resistance of the pipes from Tyrol ensures excellent snowmaking results for many years. At the same time, the existing drinking water network was extended by 300 metres and partially modernised. Here, too, the traditional Tyrolean company scored points with high quality and contributes to a safe water supply.

Safe water supply.
