Vienna expands its transport capacity for drinking water

The city of Vienna is mainly supplied by two high-source pipelines that reach the city area in the southwest. From there, the drinking water is distributed to various reservoirs throughout the city, from where the water reaches the consumers. The west and the north of the city are supplied by the first main pipeline. In order to support this, an additional water supply is provided through the third main pipeline. The main reason for this is that in the event of a failure of the first main, the third can be used as a complete replacement. In the north of the city, the challenge at the moment is to simultaneously construct the third main in common streets when the first main is in operation. The third main needs to be extended so that the first main, which was constructed from gray iron pipes between 1909 and 1911, can be renewed and supply reliability can be maintained.  In order to guarantee the best water for the Viennese population, the client, the Vienna Municipal Department 31, is also relying here on its proven partner from Tyrol. Tiroler Rohre GmbH, as a regional producer, is supplying pipes with the well proofed resistant locking system for this project.

Safe water supply.
