The existing transport and pressure pipeline from 1966
In the Swiss municipality of Mels (Canton of St. Gallen), the 1966 transport and pressure pipeline has been renewed to secure the long-term drinking water supply and optimize energy generation. The 660-meter ductile iron pipeline (DN 300) with thrust- and tensile-resistant VRS®-T joints was installed in steep terrain using helicopters and walking excavators. Thanks to the larger pipe diameter, the connected turbine can now generate more power with the same amount of water.
