two new smal hydropower plants bring Axams closer to energy self-sufficiency

At the end of September last year, the municipality of Axams commissioned two new small hydropower plants, now supplying clean electricity to around half of the local households. For the construction of the approximately 3.6 km long pressure pipeline, high-quality ductile iron pipes from Tiroler Rohre GmbH (TRM) were used. These pipes are particularly robust, durable, and ideally suited for use in alpine terrain, as they can be installed quickly and easily – without the need for complex welding work.

Thanks to the proven VRS®-T joint system, the pipes offer maximum stability and a service life of several decades. TRM pipes significantly contribute to the reliability and sustainability of the plants. Their resource-efficient production and full recyclability also meet high environmental standards.

In addition to the pressure pipeline, parts of the local drinking water supply lines were also renewed using TRM pipes, helping to ensure long-term water security for the municipality.

The combination of innovative Pelton turbine technology and TRM’s high-quality piping makes these hydropower plants a resilient and efficient step toward Axams’ energy independence. With this project, the municipality is investing in long-lasting and sustainable solutions that will benefit future generations as well.
