New Elevated Water Tank for St. Johann
In 2023–2024, the town of St. Johann im Pongau constructed a new elevated water tank with a storage capacity of 650 m³. As a result, the town's water reserves were more than tripled. The project became necessary due to supply shortages, a growing population, and increasing tourism, and it ensures a secure water supply for the future.
The existing reserve of 200 m³ was no longer sufficient to meet daily consumption and fire protection needs. Water demand increased significantly, especially in wellness hotels. There was hardly any buffer in the event of disruptions, so storage capacity had to be expanded.
Since there was no space at the original location, the new elevated tank was built at a different site. A new transmission pipeline also connected outlying areas. A pressure regulation chamber compensates for elevation differences. Due to the high quality of spring water, UV treatment is sufficient.
Approximately 3 km of ductile iron pipes (TRM DN125/150) were laid. Because of the steep terrain (up to 60% slope), the pipes were transported by helicopter, including the use of a spider excavator. The VRS®-T system and ZMU coating provided additional safety in the challenging terrain.
The new pipeline significantly shortens the transport route. The durable pipes — sustainably produced in Austria (with a service life of over 100 years) — ensure a reliable supply for future generations.
Safe water supply.
